I wish to share one of the most enriching experience of my life, not only to a work level but also to a personal one and everything thanks to the Spanish course for teachers of ELE.
While I was in EngIand, I started the course thinking that it could be a wounderful occasion to find a job, however I had the fortune to find a job as a guitar teacher in a latin american organization in London and I left apart my idea of teaching. Time passed and often while developing the chapters of the spanish book, I was thinking how much I liked it and how it will be to face a group of people that do not speak Spanish. For personal reasons I had to come back to Barcelona and I had the opportunity to meet Servei Solidari, a foundation in the heart of the city, a space of social inclusion, multicultural, where they care about the people partcipating in the foundation and they are at the center of the activity, who benefit from the foundation but also contribute to it, because they do not believe in uneven relation, they use informal communication, they do not use label or tag but they are aware of the cultural diversity that are present nowadays.
I loved it and I have decided to be a volunteer, also because I was unemployed and I wanted to finish the course and teach my own language and this was the best place since the job is very flexible but with responsability, creativity, collective negotiation...an effective communication. At the same time, the object of volunteering is to determin which of the proposed plans will be real and will be converted in new forms of learning which could help to find a new job and to have the possibility to share the abilities needed in the labor market.
It has been a challenge and at the same time an incredible experience, especially to teach an entire class of different people of different nationalities, I put in practice what I have learned during the course for spanish professor, I noticed how is important a good communication, the people`s needs and that sometimes, when we look for an alternative job, we forget that not everything that is related to teaching is connected to a payment or a contract, also we can help the others and make possible that they adapt to our culture unselfishly.
I cheer you up if you did not find a job as a Spanish professor yet but do not get depressed and if you have time then you should try to do volunteering. For the one that like me start to be Spanish professors, this is the best option to learn how to teach to a class and to put in practice everything you have studied during the course and moreover helping the woundarful people that come to Spain.
Thankyou very much Instituto Hemingway
