Spanish 110 Beginning Spanish

This course is adapted as an intensive course of 20 lessons per week, a total of 80 lessons during the course of 4 weeks.

Course Content and Scope:
1. Spanish pronunciation, listening and speaking
2. Subject pronouns and titles of address
3. Present tense of three conjugations, regular and irregular verbs
4. Verbs SER, ESTAR, SABER and CONOCER
5. Forms of negation
6. Prepositional pronouns
7. Agreement and placement of adjectives
8. Direct and indirect object pronouns
9. Reflexive constructions
10. The "personal a" and other prepositions
11. The use of the verb GUSTAR and similar verbs
12. The preterite tense of regular verbs
13. The formation and functions of the present progressive tense
14. Vocabulary
15. Cultural topics

Spanish 120 Elementary Spanish

It is adapted to the Basic Level of Instituto Hemingway. Will contain the same as the level above, 20 lessons per week, 80 lessons in the course of 4 weeks. This course is 4 credits.

Course Content and Scope:
1. Preterit tense of stem-changing verbs
2. The imperfect tense
3. The use of the subjunctive in noun, adjective and adverbial clauses
4. The subjunctive in "if/then" clauses
5. Relative pronouns
6. Commands
7. Passive and pseudo passive constructions
8. Complex uses of reflexive pronouns
9. Uses of "por" and "para"
10. Exclamations
11. Future and Conditional tenses
12. Perfect tenses
13. Time constructions using the verb "hacer"
14. Composition
15. Vocabulary
16. Cultural topics

Spanish 210 Intermediate Spanish

This course is adapted as an intensive course of 20 lessons per week, totally 80 lessons during the course of 4 weeks.

Course Content and Scope:
1. In depth study of:
- Uses of the preterite versus the imperfect verb tenses
- Uses of the direct and indirect object pronouns
- The use of GUSTAR and similar verbs
- The functions of the verbs SER, ESTAR, HABER and HACER
2. Review and expansion of the following grammatical items:
- Present, preterit and imperfect indicative verb tenses
- Passive SE and impersonal SE constructions
- Reflexive and reciprocal constructions
- Relative pronouns
- Commands
- The subjunctive in noun clauses
- The subjunctive in adjectival clauses
- Affirmative, negative and indefinite expressions
- Present perfect indicative and subjunctive tenses
3. Expansion of vocabulary
4. Discussion of cultural topics presented in readings and research

- Adverbial clauses
- Imperfect subjunctive in noun, adjective and adverbial clauses
- Passive constructions
- Comparisons of equality and inequality
- Constructions of hypothesis
- "Por", "para" and other prepositions
- All perfect verb tenses
2. Expansion of vocabulary
3. Discussion of cultural topics presented in readings and research

Spanish 330 for Business
