My opinion on the advanced Course for Spanish ELE teachers

I was surprised by the material in this advanced course. I found the
modules very interesting as they deal with topics which seem relevant to
teaching in general, not only that of second languages.
There are
quite a lot of practical examples and good reflection points about the
models and methods of teaching-learning which we handle on a day to day
basis.

One example is the module on how to deal with mistakes, with many resources to help deal with error without frustrating or discouraging the student, by giving corrections in a more constructive way, getting the student to work out of motivation to improve and to be able to express what they really want to express. Also, the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are up and coming, and I find they are a great tool in the teaching process. It involves Internet, eBooks, digital blackboards... as a means to help find material and activities which allow us to work in a number of different ways and help find alternatives in teaching methods in order to reach the whole student body, which is sometimes very diverse. ICTs also offer a bigger variety of resources which often are a basis to re-design and adjust materials to the specific needs of each student to reach his goal and to each professor’s skills.

And finally, I would highlight the module on teaching for specific purposes. Let’s not forget that we teach a language and not other subjects, that we don’t need to be experts in anything but in teaching, and that one needs a good preparation to “guarantee” successful teaching and the quality of the latter. It invites one to reflect on the teaching of different groups and age brackets, in order to underline once more the importance of adjusting oneself to their interests in order to motivate them and manage to relate to them so one can accompany them in their learning process.
Really useful.
