Therapeutic pedagogy and Spanish teacher: inmigrant children in primary schools

I'm Oihane, I have a degree in therapeutic pedagogy. For 5 years, keeping in mind the internships offered by the University and the scholarship that gave me different opportunities, working with children with different functionalities or with any kind of education difficulties.

In my last job, with a scolarship, I had the opportunity of working in the therapeutic pedagogy department in a school of Bilbao. Throughout my time there I participated in many projects that worked on the social inclusion and the linguistic immersion in Spanish. They proposed learning programs for boys and girls that had never heard a word of Spanish, programs for boys or girls that could already read and others addressed to those students who had not yet learnt. All these proposals were based on a communication methodology, where the most important thing was that the students could learn how to communicate with each other.

Even if in that moment I didn't have the opportunity of putting into practice the programs, it has been a very gratifying experience, since I learnt a lot about teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Even though I couldn't put them into practice, I know that throughout this course they have been put into practice and they have helped a lot the children that came to Bilbao without knowing Spanish.

This experience made me think on broading my formation as an ELE teacher, this is why I decided to undertake the ELE teachers course at the Instituto Hemingway. It was very interesting thanks to the importance and the demand of the Spanish ñearning among foreigners.

Finally, I would like to mention that after the course, the Instituto Hemingway gave me the opportunity of putting into practice all that I have learnt in this course. This new experience is getting more and more positive and gratifying for me. Apart from teaching my language to people coming from different countries, willing to learn a lot, I'm learning a lot thanks to them and their culture. I hope I'll keep enjoying it and learning everyday more from this new stage of my life.
