Teaching Spanish as a foreign language- a new career path
I have loved languages for as long as I can remember, especially English and French. I am a primary school teacher who specialises in foreign languages, so I already had some knowledge and experience of teaching languages.
One of the reasons I decided to do this course was to broaden my profesional skill set, since I finished my degree three years ago and I still didn’t have a job. Of course, though, another of my motivations was to strengthen my teaching ability.
I have to admit that it was never in my plans to study anything to do with teaching Spanish as a foreign language. It has pleasantly surprised me, I have enjoyed it, and I have learned a lot about my mother tongue. I have noticed things about the Spanish language that most natives would never have picked up on.
Thanks to this course, I have also realised that to teach a language it is not just important to be a native, but to teach it well it is also crucial to have good training. I don’t want to finish without saying that it was a great idea to do the teaching course on-line.
This was the first time that I’ve done a distance learning course, and I have realised that it is a great way of doing things. It is a little more complicated than a normal course though; you have to persevere with it, and have willpower, too. I sincerely hope that this course will open doors for me in the labour market. In a few weeks time I am going to experience a big change in my life by moving to Dublin to both improve my English and find a job as a Spanish teacher.
Thank you for helping me embark upon a new path in the labour market in the last few months, and for showing me how interesting and gratifying teaching your own language can be.
