Course for Spanish as a Foreign Language teachers
October 22, 2016
Amaya Matas

A new chapter of my life as a Spanish teacher in Germany

We reinvent ourselves continuously; this could be a good phrase to define the evolution of many of our working lives. I will always remember what I told my dad when I finished my last university degree: I was thrilled because finally I had finished studying, an activity I had been doing my whole life. And at that moment he told me something that really opened my eyes, that in life we are studying continuously in order to grow as a person. I remember that this surprised me, I showed a bit of reticent, but also it made me think and begin to see my situation differently. Now, 20 years later, I see that I never stopped studying my entire life: languages, specialised courses, studying documents at the beginning of a new job, achieving the necessary qualifications for certain positions, radical changes in my work profile that required updating. And here I am, as a 43 year old who has recently arrived in Germany, studying the language and preparing to become an ELE teacher in order to improve my prospects of finding a job. I have enjoyed the course, especially as a way of throwing me into this world of teaching my own language, but also it has made it clear that learning does not all end here. In order to improve in this sphere of work, furthermore to start having experience in it, it is necessary to learn ones own language more profoundly. Meanwhile, I believe that being up to date in the new techniques of teaching is something that we should all try to achieve, and this involves constantly reading, swapping information and experimenting, all things which are accessible thanks to new technology, but above, thanks to all the generosity of the teachers that share their experiences online. Thank you.
