I learned my mother tongue by simple imitation, by repeating what I heard; at school, I was taught certain grammatical rules to ensure that I used the language correctly; but all this learning didn’t necessarily mean that I could teach my own language particularly well.
My first experience of studying a second language was when I was 8 or 9 years old, and started to learn English. I spent my whole life from that moment on studying that language, and yet still could not express myself, nor communicate adequately with other people.

In my experience as a Second Language teacher, I have always found that those students who feel that their own interests and ideas are included in the class are often the most motivated. I see “Project-Based Learning” as a great teaching tool, because working as a group, students have more creative freedom and space to interact and to develop their ideas.

Throughout history, many methods of teaching foreign languages have been tried out, with varying success. No one method, however, has been completely satisfactory, nor achieved the hoped-for results.

Specialising in the teaching of Spanish for foreign students has allowed me to reflect upon our language and the associated culture surrounding it.
At the same time, it has also given me the opportunity to understand all the previous knowledge I have of Spanish, teaching this wisdom from day to day in order to help others understand the Spanish language and enjoy the best literary works from the most famous Spanish authors.

How do I find the right Language School?
To learn a language it is important to find the right surrounding. The best is to look for a School in the country of the target language, because it is easier to learn a language when you are in that country and apply what you have learned. Of course there are also Language Schools in the own Country. You just need to know what is best for you. Therefore you need to think about a couple of things:

My name is Stephanie, I´m 18 years old and I´m currently studying in my first year of the “BTS AM”, a higher-level diploma to be an Assistant Manager, in the Jehan de Chelles Institute in France.
During this year, I have to undertake an obligatory internship in a company abroad for a period of 2 months – between the 4th April and the 4th June 2011. I chose to come to Bilbao with my classmates because I like Spanish and our Spanish teacher was already familiar with Bilbao and had already advised some former students to go to the city.
I didn´t have any prior knowledge of Bilbao but I had been to Barcelona on two previous occasions. In Bilbao, there are lots of parks, attractive places to walk along and the atmosphere in the city is pleasant and buzzing. It´s a big city with new buildings, industrial zones and an excellent transport system. The people are warm and welcoming and the climate is mild.
There are lots of shops, shopping centres and places to visit. With my friends, we wanted to go to San Sebastian, Guernica, Artxanda, up Mount Pagasarri for a hike in the mountains, try pintxos (Basque tapas)…and thanks to the activities that Instituto Hemingway offers its students, we have been able to do all these activities for free.

“Space Invaders” is the name given to an artistic project, for which a provocative and anonymous French artist has spent 8 years invading hidden corners of cities around the world. In the most inconspicuous of places, we find these “Martian” mosaics, inspired by the video games of the Eighties.
