How to obtain transfer credits

The best part of studying abroad is that if you choose a program carefully you can actually be ahead of your studies when you return home.

Steps

  • First, meet with your academic advisor, department chair and/or study abroad advisor to obtain written approval stating that the courses you select will transfer back to your home institution.
  • If your school doesn't have their own transfer credit approval form, you may Download our Advisor Approval Form to aid you in getting the written approval and signature from your advisor or department chair.
  • Detailed course descriptions are available from Instituto Hemingway to help you and your advisor or department chair evaluate transfer credit.

Credits you can receive
The number of credits awarded depends on the total contact/classroom hours. Recommended credits on our website are based on 20 classroom hours per credit.

While you're abroad
Besides keeping your grades up (of course), it is your responsibility to keep all books, syllabi, exams and papers so that if need be, you can show your university administrators the work you completed while abroad. Even if credits were approved prior to departure, it is still important to hold onto these documents in case the amount of credit is ever in question.

We can help you
Instituto Hemingway wishes you the very best of success in your program and will be happy to help you every step of the way to ensure you receive the necessary credit for your courses taken abroad. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call us.
