Our students visit Castro Urdiales

Yesterday, after their Spanish classes at the Instituto Hemingway, a group of students from all over the world, visited the city of Castro Urdiales. Together with our guides Kate and Anjie, who know the area like the back of their hand, they visited the most iconic parts of this Cantabrian city.

The students loved the city, and especially the Iglesia de Santa María de la Asunción (Saint Mary of the Assumption Church) and the
Faro del Castillo de Santa Ana (Lighthouse of Saint Ana's Castle). The history of these two monuments fascinated our students Jim and Eric from the United States; they particulary loved how old the buildings were, and the amazing views of the Cantabrian Sea afforded.

The informational panels with essential information about the city of Castro Urdiales and its economic activities that take place throughout the year, allowed Paul and Holger to practise their Spanish. These two German students of B1 enjoyed the port and the spectacular weather we were blessed with yesterday. This cultural activity let them unwind and take a breather from the uses of the Present Subjunctive.

Everybody commented on how it was a lovely coastal city, and that the sheer number of bars and restaurants they passed took them by surprise. During their free time, some of the students decided to wander around and explore the ancient part of the city,  others munched on ice cream on the seafront, basking in the hustle and bustle of the port and its boats, while some of the girls checked out the shops, making the most of the sales. Everybody had an amazing time.

Our students are constantly able to practise Spanish, be it in class, or during our leisure activities.
