The Alhóndiga Bilbao and Spanish courses

During our Spanish courses at  Instituto Hemingway one of the star visits is the one to The Alhóndiga; this curious building was formerly a wine warehouse; it was built by Richard Bastida; currently the Alhóndiga ( situated in the centre of Bilbao) is a leisure and culture hub.  With the remodelling and  design by Philippe Starck it has become an essential part of the city for tourists as well for Bilbao´s citizens.

The Alhóndiga has a gymnasium, a swimming  pool , a multiplex, restaurants , a cocktail lounge and a fantastic bar on the very glamorous rooftop. Its atrium is also very impressive where you can see 43 columns with different designs representing the endless cultures, religions, wars and architectures etc that exist in today´s world.  In  total the Alhóndiga comprises three buildings.
