Getting to know people from around the world has countless advantages. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits is that through others you are able to learn about new cultures and traditions without ever having visited the country. It is amazing how much I have learnt since working at Instituto Hemingway about various people’s way of life. For example, just before Christmas we hosted an international dinner in which students each brought a dish traditional of their home country. During this wonderful evening we all sampled countless different foods and consequently learnt a little bit about the cuisine of each other’s home countries.

Furthermore, having friends from abroad is a great excuse to travel and proves incredibly useful whenever you do go away. By having a friend in the country that you visit, you do not only have the potential option of free accommodation but also a free local tour guide that will know all the places to visit. At Instituto Hemingway there are students from every corner of the globe and therefore you will meet people that you will be able to visit in the future and experience their special and unique country.

Also, meeting people from other countries is a great way to learn new languages. As Instituto Hemingway is a Spanish language school, we encourage as much learning of languages as possible (for this reason we will even be hosting free English lessons starting next week!) Our students frequently teach each other key phrases and words from their own language and as a result they leave the school not only having greatly improved their Spanish, but also having picked up a few basic concepts from an entirely new language.

We make sure that our students have plenty of opportunities to get to know each other. In our classes we want everybody to communicate as much as possible and thus it is a very sociable atmosphere in the classroom. Furthermore, we have free daily activities available for all of our students and while these are a great opportunity to get to know Spanish culture, they are also a good chance to get to know each other better. We also offer accommodation in shared flats so that you can live with your classmates during your course.
