Welcome to April at Instituto Hemingway! What do we have in store for you this month?

Spring has already arrived; precessions will begin to fill the streets of our beloved city and the Basque Festival will show us the full picture of the Basque Culture with all its peculiarities and wonders. Become one of our students and do not miss out on any of the great, free activities that we offer.

We organise afternoons according to your likes and interests. There’s a reason why we are the only language school in Bilbao with almost 20 years of experience. The first week will be arguably the best. On Monday we will have a wine tasting sessions, this time trying 3 white wines. On Wednesday we will discover the art of bullfighting. We will visit the bullfighting club here in Bilbao to learn all there is to know about this fascinating and controversial tradition. On Friday we will learn salsa dancing and to end the week well we will all meet in the same bar as always to enjoy some delicious pintxos and good company.

Semana Santa in Bilbao. We are going to enjoy the various processions and live the authentic religious passion in the streets of Bilbao. The processions will begin on the 7th April and finish on the 16th, and we hope to visit as many as possible. Semana Santa in Bilbao is characterised by its seriousness and authenticity, there will be 13 processions in the 10 days with over 3000 participants. It is thought that the processions in Bilbao are from before the city was founded in 1300.

For those that want to submerge themselves more into the Basque culture, from 12th to the 16th April the streets will be full of fun activities and concerts as part of the Basque Festival. This is an annual festival for people to enjoy and participate in the Basque culture, through music, sport, gastronomy, traditions and folklore.

The following week promises to be good fun. We will discover the Casco Viejo (old part of town), we will enjoy the new exhibition at the Maritime Museum, and as always we will finish with pintxos.

For the final week of the month we have planned another wine tasting session, this time sampling red wines. We will explore the new exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum and we will visit the Basque Museum as well.
