A day in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

Today we will enjoy a visit to the emblematic Guggenheim Museum. The world famous museum was once described as the best building of the second half of the 20th century. It radically modified the image of the city, given that before Bilbao was an industrial place with majestic shipyards, the Guggenheim has transformed it completely and given it a world wide reputation as a place of culture.

The museum opened in 1997, thanks to the work of American architect Frank Gehry. As the architect himself said, the design is based on the port that was and the city that is, and thus it is said to symbolise a ship anchored on the banks of the Nervión Estuary. At different stages of the day the titanium panels reflect the light beautifully for the entire city to see. It really is a must see building.

The Guggenheim Bilbao is surrounded by walks, green areas and recently built plazas, where artistic works such as Mamá and Puppy live alongside people enjoying their day-to-day lives.

Since its opening in 1997, the art shown in the Guggenheim dates from the middle of the 20th century onwards.
