Why learn Spanish?

Learning Spanish is becoming increasingly popular with both Americans and Europeans. Spanish is the world’s third most spoken language after Mandarin Chinese and English with approximately 500 million people world wide speaking Spanish. Spanish, along with Arabic, is being labelled the “language of the future” and this is no wonder when we consider the growing Hispanic influence in the United States (where the Hispanic population has grown by 60% in one decade) and the growing importance of Spanish in Europe (as it is often the language of choice after English and an official language in the UN and it´s organisations).
The benefits of learning any language centre on travel and career opportunities. This is certainly true for Spanish. Spanish is the mother tongue of around 350 million people in 21 countries and so the ability to speak Spanish opens up opportunities to visit Mexico, Venezuela, Peru… and of course Spain itself. As for work opportunities, with the rapid developments in Latin American economies, the ability to speak Spanish becomes a great advantage. Furthermore, in the US the ability to speak Spanish is a real bonus for medical, teaching and other professions.
