Spanish Course Wine Tasting in Bilbao! Thursday September 21

Next Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 the Instituto Hemingway is hosting its next Winte Tasting, held here at our school and we want to invite all of our students to join! The Wine Tasting is an activity meant to bring students together to learn about wine as well as put their Spanish lessons to practical use. If you are interested in trying your hand at wine tasting and learning how to distinguish between flavors and scents, as well as enjoy a great evening with students from all over the world don´t think twice about signing up =)

This time we are going to taste three very different wines, every one from a different place and grown under different conditions.

The featured wines are:

Alquez 2015- A wine from the Somos bodega in Calatayud. 100% Grown from the Garnacha vines, from grapevines over thirty five years old. It is a clear, intense wine with a persistent taste, boasting equally mineral, earthly, and ruby tones and suggesting flavors as widely varied as wood, cocoa, spices and berries. An immensely complex and specific vintage that lingers.

Sommos Merlor 2014- The grape used in the elaboration process comes from the vineyards of Montesa. The harvest commences in the second week of September over night, between midnight and eight in the morning. The process of selecting the grapes takes months.
The process of macerating the grapes takes place in the cold and lasts for forty eight hours. Fermentation is facilitated in vats of French oak with temperatures regulated and always under 28 degrees celcius.
The process of peeling the skin takes place over 15 days after the alcoholic fermentation. This is carried out in new barrels, also of French oak. Once finished, the wine is stored in new barrels to await assembly.
The wine is potent and balanced with earthly and spiced tones, shines dark red, is smooth and persistent.

Chateau Pérenne 2013- is a vine from Bordeaux that comes from the hand of Bernad Magrey. It consists of cuttings of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and recalls berries and candied sweets. It is balanced and regarded as a classically conceived wine.

We hope all of our students will attend this unusual and very interesting Wine Tasting and that everyone will find something that will surprise them, not only the wine but also the company of students from across the globe, and the opportunity to try out the Spanish you´ve learned in class.
