Our Student's Adventure to San Juan De Gaztelugatxe and Spanish Courses
Last weekend, our students had the chance to travel to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a beautiful place located an hour away from the city of Bilbao. Saturday morning, we took the bus to get to the planned destination. Once we arrived, a sign at the entrance of the path indicated that the hike would be approximately 30 minutes or 2,3 km to the hermitage.
We started the descent by taking the newly built stone path towards the coast. Formerly a rugged dirt road, this new path facilitates access to the site, all the while respecting the nature’s landscape. That’s the beauty of Northern Spain!
After a little over 20 minutes, the students reached the entrance where an open corridor of embedded natural stones pathed way towards a staircase leading to the top of the island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Splendid views of the coast clashing with the waves from the Basque Gulf could be seen. Our tireless students started the climb up and 241 steps later, arrived at the top where a small church and an area to picnic was waiting for us. Our students got to partake in a tradition where everyone is invited to ring the church’s bell 3 times and ask for 3 wishes to be granted. However, the best part of the hike was being able to observe, alongside the church, an impressive canvas unfold beneath our eyes: the clear, bright and blue sea. What a breathtaking view! After soaking it all in and appreciating the maritime landscape, we started the descent.
These activities create tight bonds between our students and creates new opportunities to learn Spanish in Spain.
Therefore, if you wish to learn Spanish in Bilbao and discover the many places of interests that the Basque region has to offer, the Instituto Hemingway is the perfect place for you as we offer Spanish courses tailored to your needs. We have been working for the past 20 years so that Spanish is not learned but lived through various experiences!
