On September 15, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. we have scheduled a tasting of sparkling wines or cavas for all students of the Spanish courses, teachers and friends who want to join us.
This time we are going to taste Penedés cavas from two of the largest wineries in Spain. Codorniú and Freixenet We are going to do a tasting of three different cavas, Brut, Semi-dry and Sweet
Thus we will learn how the flavors of cavas change depending on the age and time in the barrel and the amount of sugar.
These are the cavas that we will try:
Anna de Codorniu Brut
This is a fresh, smooth, lively and delicate brut cava. It is the first cava to incorporate Chardonnay grapes into the blend of typical cava grapes. It shows a lot of freshness, with fruity and floral features.
Anna de Codorniu Brut (Chardonnay, Macabeo, Parellada, Pinot Noir, Viura and Xarel·lo)
View: Pale straw yellow, clean and bright. Fine bubbles with a continuous rosary and persistent crown.
Nose: On the nose its delicate aromas stand out, among which tropical fruit such as pineapple and citrus, grapefruit and lime predominate.
Mouth: In the mouth it is soft, dry, we appreciate the sensations that Anna de Codorniu Brut Nature gives us in the mouth, with delicate citrus notes, balanced overall and very refreshing.
Freixenet Carta Nevada Semi dry
It presents aromas of aging and light floral nuances. Made with Macabeo, Parellada, Viura and Xarel·lo. 12 months of aging under the lees.
Golden straw view
Nose: It has a remarkable nose where toasted, fruits and yeasts stand out, which give very good sensations.
Mouth: On the palate it is quite good, with a quite pleasant mid palate, although without great pretensions. Quite good acidity and on the palate the toasted and fruity memories return. Good persistence finish.
Freixenet Carta Nevada Dulce
Is a sparkling wine made by traditional methods, with the second fermentation in the bottle. The calcareous soils of the Penedés area provide the ideal base for the Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada varieties, the characteristic grapes of the Cava Designation of Origin. In the glass it has a straw yellow color and fine bubbles. On the nose, pleasant sensations of peach, caramel and white fruits are perceived. On the palate, freshness, hints of fruit, sweetness and subtle spice, with a long and seductive finish.
So go ahead and participate. It is a cultural activity aimed especially at our students of Spanish courses and students of courses of Spanish as a foreign language.
So we are waiting for you next Wednesday in this exciting tasting.
