June 02, 2022

The students of the Spanish course have already planned cultural activities for the month of June

On Monday, June 6, 2022, at 16:30 in the afternoon , we will go to the Archaeological Museum, which is the first point of reference and main source for the dissemination of archaeological research in Bizkaia, done thorugh through activities aimed at transmitting knowledge of the history of the territory, promoting archaeological studies and ensuring the procurement, conservation and restoration of archaeological material.

On Wednesday, June 8, we will celebrate our first wine tasting of the month. Our resident wine expert, Alfredo, will prepare us a fine selection and impart some of his knowledge of the infinite world of wine.

On June 10 we will go to eat churros with chocolate at 16:00, an opportunity to enjoy one of the many gastronomic specialties of Spain. This typically Spanish flavor is unique for its bitter and sweet taste, a contrast of flavors perfectly balanced between the bitter sweetness of the chocolate and the salty touch of the churros with the oily and crunchy consistency of this unique dish.

The following week, on Monday, June 13 at 16:00, we will go to the Maritime Museum, where we will discover the permanent and seasonal exhibitions. If you are fond of models, this is an opportunity to admire the collection of models of the ships built in the works, as well as the elements and objects that refer to the maritime activity of the Bay of Bizkaia and the port of Bilbao.

On Wednesday, June 15, we will be trying tortilla de patatas(potato omelette) at 18:00. This tortilla is one of the most popular tapas in Spain. It is eaten in every home and is the most requested specialty in bars and restaurants throughout Spain. It is undoubtedly one of the most symbolic dishes of our cuisine.

On June 17, at 19.30, we have an evening to relax a little. A few drinks, some music and everyone around the table to eat some delicious pintxos. These are slices of bread with small portions of food on top, perfect to accompany your glasses of wine!

On Sunday, June 19 we will go to the Corrida de Toros(Bullfight) at 17:00. It will be an opportunity to see many things at once: the courage of the man, the courage of the animal, the authority of the man over the animal, elegance and efficiency.

On June 22, at 19.30, we have another wine tasting session with our wine teacher, Alfredo. !Salud!

On Friday, June 24, we will play billiards at 19.30. Besides benefitting both body and mind, pub sports such as billiards can help stave off isolation. And if you also like to play alone, spending some time on your own and heading a club to train at your own pace can also allow you to meet other amateurs. We'll see who will be the champion and who will win at home!

The following week, on June 25, we will attend the Zarzuela concert at 18:00. There will be 10 musical theater titles with 4 absolute premieres, including 2 commissions of new composition on stage and 2 versions of Spanish lyric heritage: one in concert and one on stage. There will also be three lyric titles from the great zarzuela repertoire, with a total of 7 new productions. The Teatro de la Zarzuela is a meeting point for different generations of audiences and for all those who are close to Hispanic culture.

On June 29, we will return to the Maritime Museum at 16:00. With its exhibitions aimed at disseminating the maritime heritage linked to the Bilbao Estuary and its surroundings, this museum is a dynamic and welcoming place, open to public participation, offering a unique experience to discover the maritime heritage.

On Friday July 1 we will have another ngith of pintxos at 19:30, one of the best ways to appreciate our culture and meet the locals - we will be drinking wine with delicious pintxos!

We are looking forward to giving our students the opportunity to practice their Spanish and get to know the customs and traditions of this beautiful city during our June activities.

These activities are free of charge for all of our Spanish students and volunteers. If you would like to take part, come join us and become a member of our Hemingway family.

We´ll see you there!
