A stroll through Bilbao
On a sunny afternoon, discover Bilbao's iconic architecture.
Start in the Casco Viejo, where you can stroll through narrow streets rich in heritage. Don't miss Plaza Nueva, famous for its pintxo bars, and Bilbao Cathedral, dedicated to St James the Apostle, patron saint of the city since 1643.
After this historical immersion, stroll along the banks of the Nerbioi Ibaia to the Zubizuri Bridge, or ‘White Bridge’ in Basque, designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava.
As you walk along the river, you will come across a work by Dora Salazar before arriving at the famous Guggenheim Museum, where you can admire works by Louise Bourgeois.
Continue on to the Plaza Euskadi and, behind it, you will find the Doña Casilda Iturrizar Park. Once the main green space, the park is now famous for its duck pond and fountains, nicknamed the ‘Duck Park’. It also has a pergola with water and light shows in summer and the Museum of Fine Arts, built in the 1940s.
Walk past the Museum of Fine Arts along Calle del Elcano. You will then come to Plaza Moyúa, renovated in the 1940s, with its elegant formal and gala gardens, where you can admire the beauty of this central area of Bilbao.
Finish your walk along Gran Vía Don Diego López de Haro, a dynamic shopping street, to El Corte Inglés for a short shopping break.
Bilbao offers a varied itinerary, combining historical heritage, contemporary art and shopping, cultural discovery and relaxation.
