Bullfighting and Spanish Courses in Bilbao
On June 20th, the Spanish language students from Instituto Hemingway will have the opportunity to know one of the most typical feasts in Spain: the bullfighting. The “Plaza de Toros” of Bilbao, Vista Alegre, is one of the most important arenas of the “bullfighting universe.” Although the Bilbao fair is celebrated in August, it will take place on June 20th, the so called “Extraordinary Bullfighting to celebrate the 708th anniversary of the ´Villa de Bilbao’ Foundation.”
In this occasion, there will be the participation of 2 bullfighters on foot, Cayetano and “El Cid” and one bullfighter mounted on a horse, “Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza.” This will be an extraordinary opportunity for our Spanish language students to assess two different ways of interpreting the bullfighting: on foot and on horse.
With Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, horse lovers will be lucky to see the evolution of his always interesting horses fighting in the arena before one of the bulls of Fermín Bohórquez.
We will then meet “Cid” again after his unbeatable act in August of 2007 with bulls of Zalduendo, which are probably the same kind of bulls that the last of the bullfighters, Cayetano Rivera Ordoñez, will confront. Cayetano said goodbye to his novice status in Bilbao, and now he comes back as a “bull killer.”
All the Spanish language students from Instituto Hemingway are invited to assist. Place of meeting: at the Institute central office at 6:00PM. The event starts at 7:00PM.
