Learn Spanish and discover Bilbao with us this December

Our students always have the possibility of spending the afternoon discovering the Spanish culture in Bilbao. We always try to help our students understand Spanish in a natural way, so that they can put to use all that they have learn from the textbooks in day-to-day life.

The afternoon cultural activities are organised so that the students discover Bilbao, familiarise themselves with the Spanish traditions, try the typical Spanish food and submerge themselves completely within the Spanish culture. Studying Spanish in Bilbao has many advantages. Furthermore, during Christmas time there are even more interesting activities.

The first week of December we recommend our students put their name down for the wine tasting. This session will be very special as it will be “vertical tasting”, where each one of the participants will discover the particular aspects of a young wine, its growth and reservation.

As we are in the time of advent, on the 1st December we will be attending a very special event, the lighting of the Christmas tree outside the Arriaga Theatre. The streets of Bilbao will be illuminated by beautiful Christmas decorations and from the 6th December they will install many nativity scenes throughout the city. We will continue with the tradition of pintxos every Friday as its always great. And if you would like, after pintxos we will go to learn salsa!

Remember that 6th and 8th December are public holidays and our school will not be open. However, on Wednesday 7th December, the day in between, we will have a tortilla class where we will learn how to make Spanish tortilla. Tortillas are a dish that our students love and our teacher is so good at making them she should be awarded a Michelin Star.

During December there are many spectacles that we will go to as well as numerous carnivals. From Friday 16th the Artisan Fair will be installed near Instituto and alongside the Arriaga Theatre where the students can enjoy indigenous, hand made products. However, the most famous carnival will take place on 21st December in Arenal. It is Feria de Santo Tomás (Saint Thomas Carnival), the most anticipated and enjoyable. There will be many places selling local goods and a friendly atmosphere. To satisfy everyone’s needs, on 27th December we will see an opera. We will go to Carmen de Salvador Távora in Eskalduna which is simply a marvellous show. You cannot miss it.
