Red wine tasting session with our Spanish courses: 27th February 2017

Next Monday, 27th February 2017, we invite you to participate in our wine tasting session organised to start at 19:00. An activity available for all students of our Spanish courses and anyone else interested in learning about wine.

On this occasion we will sample 3 wines all with the Negra label. Two wines from Rioja and another from Jumilla. This time we have organised the tasting of well-known wines. They are all from the same winery but from different years and different geographical areas.

We have chosen a very well known winery, Marques de Carrión, which loves Pata Negra wines. These are the three wines that we will try:

- The first is a wine from D.O. Jumilla, Apasionado. A different wine based from a selection of grapes from Monastrell, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon an Syrah. Each variety is prepared separately and only after the wines are finished do they decide which percentage of each one will be added to the final mix. The Monastrell grapes come from old vineyards with a very low yield and a very dry area, thus the grapes arrive somewhat like raisins, with a greater concentration of sugar, which gives the wine a sweet taste and a great percentage of alcohol. The resulting wine has not finished consuming all the sugars and remains semisweet. The rest of the varieties have a normal winemaking experience, in a stainless steel tank, with temperature control and continuous reassembling.

- The second is also a wine with an upbringing from d.O. Rioja from 2013 also made from the tempranillo grape. A wine with a powerful red colour, with violet edges, clean and shiny with aromas of red and black fruits perfectly accompanied by aromas of balsamic and subtle spices, with light shades of oak.

- The third wine is from the 2012 reserve of D.O. Rioja made with tempranillo which has malolactic fermentation in tanks of concrete which are later passed to French and American oak barrels where for 27 months the wine obtains an added aroma of wood.

The objective of our wine tasting is to see how the same winery can offer different types of wine.

This is a new opportunity to learn Spanish, new words and above all a lot things about wine.
