Spanish students will be able to visit the Guggenheim Museum for free

The famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao celebrates its 23rd birthday this year on the 18th October. Therefore this weekend on the 17th and 18th the tickets will be free. Those studying a Spanish course in Bilbao will be able to have the opportunity to enter this iconic Frank Gehry building.

Over these years, its rooms have hosted pieces from the following artists: Jeff Koons, Anish Kapoor, Louise Bourgeois, Antoni Tàpies, Richard Serra, Eduardo Chillida o Jean-Michel Basquiat, among many others.

Certainly, it has been a relevant building for the city and also the economic engine of the area thanks to its attractiveness, the tourist sector in the Basque capital has boomed over the past few years.

We could say that the building is in its youth. Sometimes the people of Bilbao that grew up with the shipyards and factories along this area are still not used to this new place. Meanwhile, the new generations are taking a liking to the place little by little since the majority of them aren’t even 30 years old. They are recent generations that now have the memory of playing together in the museum fountains.

Over the past 23 years, the museum has also been a refuge for the Bilbao mascot. Yes, we are talking about ¨the Puppy¨, who is always cheerful, always making us happy with his colour and who like a real pet, requires special care. His flowers are changed 4 times a year according to the season. Inside he has a special irrigation system that allows the plants to be kept well.

However, in Bilbao, it usually rains enough to save all of this.
