How is urban gardening volunteering in Bilbao? A volunteer's experience

Gardening experience:

Hola, my name is Margot Feys, I am 18 years old and I would like to tell you about my gardening adventure.

First of all we took the cable car to the top of the mountain and then we walked to the farm. I liked the walk a lot because you have a very nice view over the city of Bilbao. It is very peaceful and nice to see the city from another point of view, namely from above.It was a perfect day to work at the farm because it was sunny but at the same time there was a refreshing breeze.

I started pulling out weeds so that the vegetables get the chance to grow well.

And then I also raked the grass. Then we had a real challenge to water the vegetables because there wasn’t any water coming out of the garden hose. But Tom ( the volunteer at the farm) and Rodrigo came with a very bright idea to cut another bottle so that the water could go through the bottle and then through the garden hose onto the plants. It was a genius idea and we laughed a lot about it because in the progress of making it we got very wet. But I must say that it was really refreshing on this hot day. We were genuinely happy that it worked so that we were not the only things that got wet haha.

I took a lot of photos and videos that captured the farm and the work we did very well. The garden is in the mountains which means that you have a very nice view and you can enjoy the peace of the farm and your surroundings.

Although I did it once I think it’s very nice to see the progress we made with the garden. There was a very nice atmosphere and we made a lot of jokes.

Then it was time to go down the mountain again and we decided to walk down. You are constantly surrounded by nature and stunning views. The walk down is quite easy and just very fun to see different sights of the city while walking down. While walking down we played a fun game about who could stand still the longest as a flamingo which was very fun but unfortunately I didn’t win which I still don’t agree with though haha. It was a joke because I am flemish which means ‘flamenco’ in spanish. So normally I should be good at the flamingo/ flamenco pose.

I had a really good time I laughed a lot and I would definitely recommend the project to anyone who loves nature and gardening!!
