Cultural activities for November 2023

Another month is about to begin, and here at Instituto Hemingway we have prepared another month full of activities for our students!

We will start the month by going to Artxanda and enjoying some great views of the city. There we will be able to try some of the famous local wine, Txakoli. This wine, typical of the Basque region, has been produced here for decades. If you are interested in this particular activity, we will meet at our school on the 1st of November at 10:45. Don't miss it!

For the 2nd of November we have organised an excursion to Puerto Viejo. This small maritime town is truly unforgettable and will steal your heart with its little white houses clustered in steep streets. You will be transported back to a time when the skilled sailors of Algorta helped the ships heading for Bilbao to enter and leave the estuary. The meeting point is at the Instituto Hemingway at 16:00, see you there!

To end the week on a positive note, on Friday the 3rd we are back with another Hemingway classic: Pintxos Night! Our Pintxos nights are the best and are a great opportunity to socialise with other students, teachers and staff at our school. All while enjoying delicious Basque cuisine. This activity will take place every Friday of the month, the meeting point will always be our school at 20.00. Enjoy and see you there!

On Tuesday 7th November we will be visiting a Bilbao classic, the Guggenheim Museum. Designed by Frank Gehry, the Guggenheim Museum building is a magnificent example of the most groundbreaking architecture of the 20th century.

With 24,000 m2, of which 9,000 m2 are dedicated to exhibition space, the Museum represents an architectural landmark of innovative design, providing a seductive backdrop for the art on display.

On Thursday 9th November we have planned something really fun and never done before - Jumpyard is coming to Bilbao! Jumpyard is a giant park, with more than 3500 m2 of trampolines and indoor attractions. This Bilbao park will be the first space in the world with two SkyRiders, a game that combines adrenaline and skill at height.

It will also be possible to play on the Valo TV or take an adventure on the Ninja circuit, among other activities. The meeting point will be at 15.45 at the Instituto Hemingway, you won't want to miss it!

The following week, on Tuesday 14th November, another Hemingway classic returns: Wine tasting. Our colleague Alfredo, as well as being a very good lawyer, is an excellent sommelier and with him you will be able to taste some delicious wine. While you enjoy sipping your wine you can also try some local cheeses and sausages, see you at our school at 19:00!

If you like art you won't want to miss this specific activity we have planned. On Thursday 16th November we will be visiting the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The museum brings together more than seven thousand pieces, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper and applied arts. It is an outstanding collection of heritage that spans a chronology from the 13th century to the present day.

On Tuesday 21st we are going to try one of the most famous foods here in Spain: the Tortilla de Patatas. We will visit a Pintxos bar together and you can try this delicious Spanish speciality with a drink of your choice. It's a great opportunity to socialise with other students and try the local cuisine. The meeting point will be at 16:00 at our school - we hope to see you there!

On Wednesday 22nd November we will go together to one of the coolest bars in Bilbao, the Rockade. It's a leisure space where you can enjoy delicious street food while playing some of the best arcade games. For those of you who like beer, you can choose from the international beers on offer. This is a place where boredom is impossible, so make sure you're at the entrance of our school by 17:00. Don't miss it!

The Cathedral of Santiago is the largest gothic temple in Biscay. The history of Bilbao has been linked from the beginning to this cathedral, consecrated to the patron saint of the city. The visit to the Cathedral includes an audio guide to learn about the history and evolution of the temple and if you like churches, the ticket also includes an entrance to the church of San Antón. The meeting point is at 16:00 next to our school, we look forward to seeing you! Date: Thursday 23/11/23

For the last week of November, we thought we would start with a more "chill" activity. That's why we thought it would be great to go to the cinema together on Tuesday 28th November. It will be a great opportunity to improve your Spanish and spend some time with your friends. We haven't decided yet what we will see and what time we will go, so any suggestions from our students would be great.

The next day, we have organised another night of our Hemingway classic. That's why we have organised a Wine Tasting on Wednesday 29th November where you can taste some delicious wines with the best sommelier in Bilbao: Alfredo.

See you at our school at 19:00!

To finish off the month we will visit the Palacio Foral. With a mixture of styles, the building is located on Bilbao's main artery, the Gran Vía.Films such as Handia and Plan de fuga were filmed in the building. It was designed by architect Luis Aladrén and its eclectic mix of monumental, baroque and medieval touches will leave you speechless. Its rooms are richly decorated with a collection of interesting works of art.We will be waiting for you, as always, at 16:00 at the entrance of our school. Date: Thursday 30 November 2023

We hope you are looking forward to the activities we have planned for this month. We are looking forward to having fun together and hope that many of our students will join us.
