December 2023 cultural and leisure activities

The most wonderful time of the year has arrived and here at Instituto Hemingway we have prepared a month full of fun activities: we are back with some of our Hemingway classics, but we have also planned some new ones that we hope you will enjoy!

First of all, remember that we have a pintxos night every Friday. If you are new, our pintxo nights are a great opportunity to get out and about with other students, teachers and staff at our school. Pintxos will obviously be on offer, as well as drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The meeting point will be as usual our school at 20:00, where a member of our team will be waiting and will take you all to the restaurant. These evenings are very popular, so we hope to see many of our students.

Let's start the month off right by trying some delicious churros con chocolate. Churros are a type of fried dough typical of Spanish cuisine and are usually served with delicious melted chocolate. We know some of the best churrerías in Bilbao so you won't want to miss this activity, we will meet you at our school at 16:00 on Monday 4th.

Most of our students will already know our popular Wine Tasting but for December we thought we could change it and plan a Cava and Nougat Tasting instead. In this activity our school becomes a wine cellar and our teachers become sommeliers, you will enjoy a delicious sparkling Christmas wine served with nougat which is a sweet made from a mixture of honey, eggs, sugar and toasted nuts. We will be waiting for you at our school at 19:30 on Tuesday 5th.

If you want to spend some time with your school friends, meet new people and hang out with our team at Instituto Hemingway we have come up with a simple but fun activity. On Wednesday 6th we will play some board games together.

We have so many different games at our school that you can choose from, so we are sure you won't get bored, but feel free to bring your own if there is something you really want to play.

To put you in the Christmas spirit we thought we would go and visit the Christmas markets here in Bilbao on Monday 11th. This is a great opportunity to relax with your friends, do some Christmas shopping and try some Spanish Christmas specialities. After that, we will go together to Artxanda where we can see a stunning light show overlooking our amazing city. As we have to make a reservation, make sure you register using the QR code on the sign at the entrance of our school.

One of the activities our students enjoy the most is table football. That's why we have planned to have our monthly table football tournament on Wednesday the 13th. Have a drink, choose your teammate and have fun with your friends in one of the best bars in Bilbao.

One of the biggest ice rinks in Spain is opening in Bilbao, so of course we have organised an activity there on Monday the 18th. Put your name down on the poster we have prepared in our school and don't forget to wear gloves. Make sure you dress warmly and come by our school at 17:00. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

With only a few days to go until Christmas, we thought we would once again propose a Cava and Nougat Tasting. This will be a great opportunity to socialise and spend some time with your friends while drinking some good wine and eating some Spanish specialities. Above all, we hope that this activity will get you in the spirit of Christmas. The tasting will take place at our school, as always, this time on Tuesday 19th at 19:00. We can't wait to see you there!

The next day, Wednesday 20th December, we are back with one of the most fun activities in Bilbao. We will be going back to Jumpyard, an amazing and fun amusement park that opened last month. Places available are limited, so make sure you write your name on the poster we have prepared in our school.

On Friday 22nd we have a slightly different activity for our Spanish students. Instead of the typical pintxos night, we are going to take everyone to a flamenco show, with the flamenco singer Juanjo Navas.

We meet here at the Instituto Hemingway as usual, at 17:30. Don't miss it!

On the afternoon of the 26th we thought we'd get together and try some Spanish food together. You've probably already heard about the delicious Jamón Ibérico, this Spanish speciality is amazing and we're sure you won't be disappointed. Come and join us at 15:00 to try some Bocatas de Jamón Ibérico.

We will end the month of December with one of Bilbao's most famous attractions, the Guggenheim. You can't really say you've been to Bilbao if you haven't visited this amazing museum. Whether you like art or not, this activity will not disappoint you.

These are all the activities we have planned for this month and we hope you enjoy them! Obviously we are back with some old Hemingway classics, but we thought you might also enjoy some new activities. All you have to do if you want to take part is write your name on the board at the entrance to our school. We hope to see many of our students taking part and wish you all a very happy festive season!
