Level A1 DELE exams – May 2009

The level A1 DELE is a certificate of competence in the Spanish language, equivalent to the Breakthrough level (A1), the first of six outlined on the scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for learning, teaching and evaluation. This qualification proves that the candidate can cope in situations which require simple communication, relating to meeting basic needs or very common everyday situations.

The new exam is composed of four tests of normal usage of the language: written and oral comprehension, and written and oral expression and interaction.

The diploma is an internationally-recognised Spanish qualification which complements the current offering of levels of Spanish diplomas. Similarly, it increases the range of teaching at centres with preparation courses for exams and makes the approach to learning Spanish more accessible to the public, as it evaluates the level of language knowledge from the beginning of Spanish language studies and encourages students in order to attract them and secure their loyalty from the first course.

The level A1 DELE is the first of the certificates in Spanish and is the first stage for immersing yourself in the Spanish-speaking world.

Instituto Cervantes has set the first exam session for May 2009. Applications will be accepted between the 2nd of March and the 24th of April. At Instituto Hemingway, we help our students in their preparations for the exams. The teachers have a range of material and exercises available which are specially designed for preparing for the exam. They also help with practice exercises and mock exams which will help the students to be ready for the final exam.
