Activity for Spanish students: Cirque Eloize in Bilbao

On April 24th 2009, the Spanish students at Instituto Hemingway have another night at the Arriaga theatre www.teatroarriaga.com in Bilbao in order to discover a unique type of circus performance: Cirque Eloize.

On the Magdalen Islands, in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, the heat lightning which can be glimpsed on the horizon is called ‘éloize’. The seven artists who founded the circus company 14 years ago chose this name to reflect the heat and energy that nourishes the spirit of the group. Since then, Cirque Eloize has produced six shows, with more than 3000 performances in some 300 cities in 30 countries, which have consistently received great critical and public acclaim, as well as winning numerous awards and accolades.

From the very first show the company laid the foundations of its essence, presenting a new way of fusing theatre, dance and circus on stage. Their latest production, Rain, is directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, a multidisciplinary artist renowned for the sensitivity and poetry of his work, who has said of Rain: “I want this show to be like a simple caress, direct, full of sensuality and tender hope. I am dedicating it to all those who love to feel the rain falling on them.”

We will meet at the headquarters of our Spanish school (Calle Bailén 5) in Bilbao on April 24th, 2009 at 7.30pm. The show starts at 8pm. As usual, if you are interested, please sign up on the sheet in the office so that we can buy tickets.
