Noche blanca in Bilbao: celebration of the 709th year of the foundation of the city
On 13th June 2009, Spanish students of Instituto Hemingway are invited to participate at the celebration of the 709th year of the foundation of the city by Diego Lopez de Haro. The “noche blanca” (white night) will be a great opportunity to explore the city with more than 30 events planned for the night.
This is the first time that Foundation Bilbao 700 will celebrate the anniversary during the night and in various parts of the city. Some of the artists that will be performing are the singer Buika, the actress Rossi de Palma, the hip hop band Circle of Trust as well as the Colombian jazz band Puerto Candelaria. Among the other participants are the Basque artists Oreka Tx, Galatea, Kukai and La Intrusa.
The main idea of the anniversary is to reveal the cultural heritage of the city and to show in what way Bilbao has developed throughout the years. The chosen places where the separate events will be going on at the same time are: Plaza del Arriaga, the Bidebarrieta Library, Bilbao Arte, the porch of Catedral de Santiago, the kiosk of Arenal, in front of Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, and the museums Guggenheim, Bellas Artes, Diocesano Museum and the Basque Museum.
All Instituto Hemingway students are welcome to celebrate noche blanca this Saturday, 13th June. This is an outstanding way to explore the sights of the city with the other Spanish students and learn more about the Spanish culture.
