Celebration of the Day of the Spanish Language All Around the World
On the 20th June 43 countries around the world celebrated the international Day of Spanish Language. The main goal was to show the importance of the language spoken by 450 million people and being official in 21 countries. The Instituto Cervantes organized the first celebration of Spanish language, which took place in various places that value the Spanish language and culture.
In Japan at 11 a.m., local time, the festivities began with Kabuki presentation of Spanish words while in the German city of Bremen they launched a thousand globes in the sky and in Shangai they organized a Spanish karaoke. These celebrations demonstrated the importance of the Spanish language worldwide and its prevalence as a foreign language in other countries as well.
According to the report that showed the status of the Spanish language today, around 10% of the world’s population would be able to understand the language after three generations. Also, it is predicted that the United States of America will be the first Spanish speaking country in the world by the year 2050. Another quite fascinating fact is that Spanish is the third most used language on the Internet because 8,2% of the people use it online. Today about 14 million people study Spanish as a foreign language and around 237 thousand students visit Spain to learn it.
