Spanish for specific purposes: Spanish for tourism

Our friends at the publishing house Edinumen suggested an article about Spanish for tourism which we have reprinted in this section.

The demand for Spanish for specific purposes has grown considerably during recent years. Many people, professionals in particular, wish to approach specific areas of usage of the language. At Instituto Hemingway, we offer specialized teaching for this aim with special courses given by professors linked to these professional areas, like Business Spanish and Spanish for tourism. In cities like Bilbao with strong commercial activity and tourism the number of people wanting to improve there level of Spanish for a specific professional purpose is increasing. Engineers, financiers, lawyers, hotel workers, companies.. are some groups that wish to undertake courses in Spanish for Business, Spanish for Finance or Spanish for Tourism. Spanish for tourism belongs to the study of special language. These languages are defined pragmatically by the topic, users and the communicative situations where the spoken language is used.
