Festivities in Bilbao: enjoy the fiesta learning Spanish

The coming Saturday the 15th of August until the 23rd of August, the Semana Grande (the Big Week) will be celebrated in Bilbao. The city’s annual fiesta is an excellent time to visit Bilbao to enjoy the fiesta and learn Spanish.

At Instituto Hemingway we make it easy for you; we maintain our offer of Spanish classes and our cultural activities will be focused around the cultural events of the fiesta celebrated in the city.

The musical program is distinctive of the Semana Grande in Bilbao. The diversity of styles, the number of concerts, the quality of the artists, always first-class, and above all the fact that the musical performances are free of charge has turned the eight musical spaces of Bilbao into a point of reference during this week.

In these days we will be visited by We are Standard, The Waterboys, Ska-P, Zarama, Miguel Ríos, Rosana, La Oreja de Van Gogh, The Cherry Boopers, La Escepción, Despistaos, Gatibu, Los Secretos y Fangoria, among others.

And as one would have expected, the Semana Grande in Bilbao is one of the most extensive and complete displays of our sport and folklore.

The XXXII Bilbao Town Regatta of Rowing, cycling, running, the Pelota Tournament and competitions and exhibitions of chess and local sports are just some of the sports events planned for these nine days of festivities.

Apart from the traditional cooking competitions during the morning, el Arenal and Casco Viejo (the old town) will be seeing a range of exhibitions of our folklore and popular culture.

There are many activities to participate in during the fiesta in Bilbao. Bullfights, rural and popular sports, musical concerts… and at Instituto Hemingway we make sure you enjoy the fiesta and learn Spanish.
