Chorizo, talo and crafts at the “Feria de Angosto”: Spanish Courses
On the 6th September we visited the “Feria de Angosto” (Angosto Fair) to discover some of the traditions, typical of Alava. During the summer and autumns months, animal and craft shows are popular across the whole of Northern Spain. On this occasion, we travelled to Angosto, a small town, 30 km from Vitoria and 70km from Bilbao, in Valdegovía municipality.
The trip was very popular amongst the students; we saw how talo, a type of maize cake, similar to Mexican tortillas, and an important product of all popular fiestas is made. The talo is eaten with a piece of chorizo, black pudding, cheese and chocolate and is often washed down with a glass of Rioja or natural cider.
We took the opportunity also to look round local artisans´ stalls selling beans, garlic, bread and many other products.
If you decide to study Spanish in Bilbao, don’t forget to visit the fairs and traditional markets, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about Spanish culture and gastronomy.
