Murillo Exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao for Students of Spanish

Here at Instituto Hemingway we regularly organise cultural activities which our students can take part in as a complement to their Spanish language studies. In October the exhibition of the painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo landed in Bilbao at the Museum of Fine Arts, and we offered the opportunity for our students to go along and look at the work of this famous Spanish baroque painter.

Murillo was born in Seville in 1617 and was to become one of the most important figures on the baroque painting scene in Spain. While the majority of his work focused on religious figures, he also painted portraits of contemporary women and children, offering an insight into the everyday life of his times.

The exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts houses around 50 of the painter’s works, including St. Peter Weeping (c.1650-55) and St. Lesmes (c. 1655). The Exhibition runs until 17th January 2010, and we hope to make it a regular fixture on our calendar of cultural activities, so if you are an art-lover, Instituto Hemingway is a great place to combine art and language in the perfect course for you.

Our first visit to the museum will be Wednesday 4th November. All students can meet at Instituto Hemingway at 16:00 where we will make our way to the Museum of Fine Arts.
