El Joglars: La Cena – Spanish Students at the Theatre

This Thursday 5th November, students of Spanish at Instituto Hemingway will be visiting the Teatro Arriaga. Albert Boadella and his company ‘El Joglars’ are returning to Bilbao to perform a contemporary piece which raises another politically correct theme from their traditional satirical approach.

We will meet at Instituto Hemingway at 19:30, and we will make our way from there to Teatro Arriaga, situated five minutes from the school. The performance begins at 20:00, and we can enjoy the satirical humour of El Joglars.

Tartufo would feel at ease in this world. Molière’s immortal character seems to reign supreme in our society: pompous philanthropic speeches and fake magnanimity…

…La cena is a satire on environment protection and climate change in different settings.

The play’s opening scene is the preparations for an international climate summit to be held at a Spanish Parador. The Government of Spain will be in charge of the closing ceremony and meal. Thus, they set out to serve dishes designed by a cuisine genius based on avant-garde yet environment-friendly gastronomy. All the other world leaders will be dazzled by this dinner...
