Dance and Jazz in Bilbao : activities for Spanish language students

In Bilbao we are lucky to be embraced by the ever varied world of theatre, music and dance that brings people together and transcends cultures.

This autumn brings with it two festivals of importance, the first being BAD, Festival de Teatro y Danza Contemporánea de Bilbao, a celebration of movement and dance from Bilbao and other Spanish cities such as Valencia and Madrid, as well as other European countries, such as Switzerland, Belgium, France, Italy and Portugal. The performances will take place in some of the best known stages (Teatro Arriaga and Kafe Antzokia, among others), but the surprise of this year is that the festival is opening up to the public like never before. The parking lot of the commercial centre Zubiarte and an industrial building in Zorrotzaurre are just few of the dance attractions of this year’s festival, designed to spark a fire also in those not yet familiar with the world of modern dance.

365 Jazz Bilbao, that has been running throughout the year, has still more music to bring to the people of Bilbao. The month of November, especially, is dedicated to jazz in film, as it celebrates the work of notable jazz musicians and composers that have contributed to the medium of film. The festival, together with the gifts of BAD, gives the Spanish language students of Instituto Hemingway yet another possibility to weave in their experiences of the city with the courses that they take, and it makes up for a final maravilloso after a year of culture.
