Instituto Hemingway updates its Spanish teaching methods

As a Cervantes accredited teaching centre, Instituto Hemingway has decided to update its teaching methods, utilising the most modern and flexible techniques to place it at the forefront of Spanish teaching. The chosen method is Prisma (Edinumen), a communicative method, divided into six levels, Breakthrough (A1), Waystage (A2), Threshold (B1), Vantage (B2), Effective Operational Proficiency (C1) y Mastery (C2). Prisma follows the structure of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Instituto Cervantes´ teaching framework.
Prisma is a communicative and flexible textbook; versatile and varied, its caters to the individual needs of all students. Focusing on the common difficulties in learning the Spanish language, it is a dynamic and attractive method for both students and teachers alike.
At Instituto Hemingway, we hope this new textbook will be a valued tool that helps our students master the Spanish language.

Advantages of using Prisma
Endorsed by Instituto Cervantes, Prisma meets the necessary teaching framework requirements, both in terms of levels and teaching methods.
- It encompasses communicative teaching techniques, enabling it to be a flexible and versatile method which caters to the needs and interests of all students.
- All activities aim to develop communication skills. The principal objective, is to give students the strategies and knowledge to communicate in a Spanish-speaking environment, with forgetting the importance of intercultural aspects.
- The cultural contents do not exclude the reality of Latin America and allow students to reflect about the diversity of the Spanish language.
- Oral and written skills are practised, both individually and through pair and group work, making the most of opportunities to interact, communicate and learn about different cultures.
- Grammar is studied from both a structural and functional perspective, allowing students, when applicable, to form grammatical rules. Learning and communication strategies, in addition to self-assessment skills are improved, whilst the cultural component and its context are emphasised to give students a global outlook.
