Spanish and cooking lessons in the Basque country

The Basque region is world famous for its fresh well prepared dishes that use the finest local and seasonal ingredients. This region has some of the world’s finest restaurants such as the Guggenheim restaurant and the Michelin star restaurant Goizeko-kabi. The most important ingredient in Basque cooking is undoubtedly the fresh ingredient. As a result of this regions expansive coast line, seafood is extremely popular here.

Instituto Hemingway is offering you the unique chance to combine Spanish and cooking lessons to create the ultimate Basque cuisine experience. We are lucky enough to be affiliated with a professional culinary academy. The head chef is a published author of many cookery books and is a member of the Gastronomic society of Bilbao.

Instituto Hemingway offers you the chance to experience a hands on interactive cooking class with fresh seasonal ingredients and fine wine. This will be a very enjoyable and social experience as the gastronomic society typically interacts in a very relaxed manner with many jokes, anecdotes and the sharing of culinary knowledge. Typical Basque dishes include Marmitako which is fish stew, made with tuna, potatoes, onions, peppers and tomatoes and Bacolao a la Vizcaina which is salt cod in a rich red pepper sauce. Come and try your hand at cooking these or one of the many of Basque delicacies and improve your Spanish at the same time.
