Anniversary celebrations in commemoration of the death of Ernest Hemingway
Instituto Hemingway will be present at this commemorative event in Tarragona from the 3rd – 5th April to mark the fiftieth anniversary of his death. Poets, writers, artists, painters and bullfighters will all be in attendance in honour of the artistic world and showbusiness that always surrounded Ernest Hemingway.
A documentary is being made to mark this half- centenary anniversary. At the time of his death, the Nobel Prize winner from 1954 had a relatively solitary and very private funeral so, in mitigation of this injustice, after the memorial in Spain, the 50th anniversary will also be celebrated in Los Angeles on the 5th and 6th of May (organised by Bruce Palait, Rikki Gordon and Patti Solomon) and in Lima from the 12th to the 14th of May (organised by Irma del Aguila and José Maria Gatti).
The memorial celebration in Tarragona will take the form of a documentary called “The world of Hemingway”, in which the actor Jaume Queralt will take the role of Luis Miguel Dominguín as the lovable matador. “The Old Man and the Sea” and “The Legendary Life of Ernest Hemingway” are some of the best known works by the American writer. Henrik Baranowski, Delphine Chanéac, Pilar Lopez De Ayala, Alexandra Maico and Karin De Ponti are some of the cast of actors and actresses that will take part in the celebration. Jaume Queralt Senior, the famous painter, is going to present a pictorial work portraying Hemingway´s death as the death of a matador.
Instituto Hemingway would like to pay homage to the writer who gave the school its name and, together with other institutions, is inviting all of its students and associates to come together to mark this event, which will shed light on the people and aspects of Hemingway´s life that shaped his career.
