The importance of studying languages: learning Spanish
Nowadays, in the global age, languages are becoming more and more important, and are a real advantage to any CV. Many employers now require that their employees are able to speak foreign languages so that they are able to communicate with a higher percentage of the world’s population.
Learning languages is hard work and takes a long time. This is why the ideal period in which to learn a language is when we are young, at school and our minds are still like absorbent sponges. However, language learning is still possible at all ages and, in order to obtain better results, I think we should go to the country in which the language in spoken for a few months, or even spend an entire year abroad by doing an internship, working as an au-pair or living with a host family.
This is important because it allows you to live with local people, get to know their customs and practice your language skills.
Learning foreign languages has many advantages, the most important of which are:
• Personal and intellectual enrichment
• Personal development
• Brilliant “exercise” for your brain
• Improved communication skills
• Better understanding of other cultures and lifestyles
The most important language in my opinion is English, because the majority of people can speak, or at least understand English. It is an international language. In this way, I think that being able to speak this language is essential these days, since there are so many relationships and exchanges between countries.
However, learning Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese etc, are all just as important and beneficial: each language has its own advantages and customs.
Although learning a language takes a lot of time and effort, being able to speak foreign languages is a huge advantage from both a personal and professional view, and it’s just as important to learn a variety of language as it is to travel to the target language country to improve your level.
