The importance of studying languages: learning Spanish

Nowadays, languages are incredibly important and are a real advantage to any curriculum vitae. Many employers are even now demanding that their employers speak various languages in order to communicate with the world.

Learning languages is a difficult job requiring a large amount of time and effort. For this reason, the best period during which language learning – or acquisition – is easiest when we are young and still in school. However, to achieve the best results in later life, it is advisable to go to the countries in which are target languages are spoken for a few months – or even for a year. Various options to spend time abroad include undertaking internships, working as an au pair or living with a host family.

This is important because it allows you to live with local people, get to know their customs and practice speaking their language.

The ability to speak a foreign language – or more than one - has many advantages, for example:
• Personal and intellectual enrichment
• Brilliant exercise for your brain
• Development of communication skills
• Broader awareness of foreign cultures and ways of life

In my opinion, the most important language in the world is English because people in the majority of the world´s countries speak, or at least understand English. It is an international language. In this way, speaking foreign languages is almost essential in this modern age in which there are so many connections and exchanges between countries.

However, speaking Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese etc…are all of equal importance and each language has its advantages and own customs.

Although learning a language is a tough task requiring a lot of time, speaking more than your mother tongue is a fantastic skill from a personal and professional point of view and therefore it´s a brilliant idea to head to a different country and get improving your skills!
