Spanish students visit the Alhóndiga on Monday the 30th May at 4pm

On Monday the 30th June at 4pm, students from Instituto Hemingway will be able to visit the “Alhóndiga” which is a fantastic centre of leisure and culture located in the centre of Bilbao. This forms one of the many activities that our school has organised for its students during the month of May.

Erected between 1905 and 1909 by Ricardo Bastida, “Alhóndiga” was originally a wine warehouse and has been renovated into a fabulous arts and entertainment centre by the French architect Philippe Starck.

Alhóndiga Bilbao is a public space of leisure and culture, conceived and designed under the integral concept of people and the development of relationships between humans. The building is open for use for all citizens of Bilbao.

This enormous centre offers an endless array of activities and services:
- Mediathek, containing books, DVDs, computers, study rooms, foreign television…
- Sports centre
- Swimming pool
- Cinema
- Exhibition hall
- Restaurants
- Alhóndiga Bilbao shop
- Banks
- Cafes

There are many exhibitions on a wide variety of themes, workshops, courses, seminars, as well as conferences, debates, theatre…the list goes on!

The centre is open between 7am and 11pm, Monday – Thursday; until midnight on Fridays, between 8.30 and midnight on Saturday and between 8.30 and 11pm on Sunday.
