My experience in Bilbao: learning Spanish in a vibrant city

I am currently halfway through a 2-month long work experience placement in Instituto Hemingway in Bilbao.

Bilbao is a bright and buzzing city and the people are very friendly. So far, I am really enjoying my stay here in Spain because it allows me to speak Spanish, get to know new people and discover a beautiful new city.

What has surprised me the most are the nightclubs and nightlife in general. I had expected that most people our age would like to go out dancing, but it is not really the case. Here, they prefer to spend longer in the bars after work, casually drinking beer and eating pintxos – or Basque tapas.

However, we are able to travel quickly and easily to the beach, which is stunning and easily accessible with the metro.

I think I would very much like to return to Bilbao on holiday with my friends.
