Book Fair in Bilbao: students from our school get closer to the world of reading
Between the 1st and 12th of June, the Arenal area in Bilbao´s city centre is playing host to the 41st Annual Book Fair. As this area is so close to our school, all students studying here with us have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of literature in the Spanish language.
During this Fair, latest releases from both national and international literature will be presented. In addition to being an effective shop window for the latest releases, it also provides an excellent platform for other activities such as presentations, conferences and informal chats. Today, Tuesday the 7th of June, it was Dominique Lapierre´s turn to take the spotlight.
Between the vast amount of books on sale, current best sellers by Spanish authors such as “Prométeme que serás libre”, by Jorge Molist or “Tiempo entre costuras”, by María Dueñas are being heavily promoted. Among fashionable international authors, you are able to buy books from the Japonese author Haruki Murakami or the Italian author Federico Moccia, who is coming to Bilbao on the 28th of June to hold a conference and sign some of his books.
This fair is a great opportunity to get to know not only novels, but other genres as well, due to the wide variety of products on offer. You are able to buy essays, cookery books, books focusing on the history of the Basque Country, self-help manuals, joke books or books featuring contemporary social themes, such as "Indignaos!" by Stephane Hessel, which is a statement against indifference and in favour of peaceful resistance. It is also possible to buy music and medieval maps, as well as old disc recordings and many, many other things besides.
For our students learning Spanish at a lower level, we recommend books aimed at younger people, and for those with a slightly better grasp of the Spanish language, we recommend short books with well-known sayings and their meaning.
