Our students of Spanish nature: ascending Artxanda mountain
Last Tuesday the 9th of August, a group of Hemingway students ascended Artxanda Mountain on its famous funicular railway. Artxanda is a mountain located right in the heart of Bilbao, from whose summit one is rewarded with second-to-none panoramic views across the capital of Biscay.
"After a short 10 minute walk along the river, we found ourselves at the entrance to the funicular station, which is tucked away a few streets behind the riverside. After climbing slowly up the mountain from ground level at Plaza Funicular, the little train reached its destination at the top of the mountain, from where we enjoyed the beautiful views of Bilbao. We looked down over the city, and were able to identify many of Bilbao´s most impressive buildings such as the Guggenheim, the Iberdrola tower and the old factory chimney in Extebarria Park.
After some free time to look around, contemplate and photograph the site, a small picnic took place, with the mountains and the city of Bilbao as our backdrop. After some down time we went back in the funicular, satisfied and content.
“The excursion was without a doubt a lovely way to spend an afternoon; enjoying the free activities offered to all students by Instituto Hemingway.”
