Our Spanish students conquer Mount Pagasarri
Last Sunday, 25th September, a motley crew of our most intrepid students met up with José, the director of the Instituto Hemingway, to climb Mount Pagasarri. As they arrived at the meeting-place, José pointed out a telephone mast far in the distance on top of a mountain: their destination!
Excited to reach the top, the students started to climb. After about half an hour of non-stop walking they reached a car park, which, according to José, is where most Bilbaínos start their ascent, after driving that far and leaving their cars.
From that point, the students had only an hour´s hard climbing ahead of them before reaching the summit of Mount Pagasarri, at 673 metres above sea level. After many “it´s just around the corner”s from José, the students were finally rewarded with the sight of the small bar, where they enjoyed some well-deserved drinks. From where they were sitting, exhausted, they were able to watch much older locals climbing nimbly up the mountain to enjoy the view. “On top of the world”, as some described it, the students took some photos of the wonderful views and, once recovered, began the desent.
Proud of their achievement, and delighted with the perfect weather, the students returned home to rest after such an active morning.
