A sailing trip around Bilbao with our Spanish students
Last Tuesday, 27th September, a small group of Instituto Hemingway students took a trip down the Bilbao river.
The beautifully named “Ibai Alai” is specially adapted to the character of the river. It´s a monohull boat, built to hold 80 people, as you can see from pictures on the Bilboatwebsite.
We embarked below the September sun on a cloudless day, and sat down on the top deck as the boat sailed along the coast. As our boat was one of only a few on the river at the time, many of the people enjoying the lovely weather on the promenade waved to us as we sailed along. We meanwhile took lots of photos of buildings like the Guggenheim and the Torres Gemelas, which were beautiful under the sun.
The students had a great time, enjoying the perfect weather, the water and the soft breezes. We also got to see areas of Bilbao that we had never been to before, like the peninsular zone Zorrozaurre y Olabeaga. From new perspective, inches above the water, we could appreciate the buildings, history and landscape of the city in a whole new way, discovering the real Bilbao.
