A trip to an Antonio López exhibition with our Spanish students
Last Wednesday, 2nd November, as part of the programme of free activities offered by the Instituto Hemingway, our Spanish students went to see an exhibition by the famous Spanish artist Antonio López at the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts.
We left the Instituto at 3pm and walked towards the city centre until we arrived at the Doña Casilda Park, where we found the Museum of Fine Arts. The museum is split into two floors, over which are spread 33 galleries, which display the works chronologically. Furthermore, there are a few galleries which periodically display temporary exhibitions to suit all artistic tastes.
The main motive for yesterday’s trip was the exhibition of works by Antonio López, a Spanish painter and sculptor famous for his realism. We admired his realistic works centred around Madrid, which gave the spectator the impression of being in the centre of the city. Only if you got up very close could you tell the difference between López´s work and a photograph.
We were particularly fascinated by the pencil drawings, and following them eventually found ourselves contemplating drawings of toilets. These were so intricate that they too created the impression that one out simply walk into the room through the door in the drawing.
The Museum of Fine Arts is a great alternative activity for those Bilbao rainy afternoons, and what’s more, it opens its doors for free one day a week.
