New materials for Spanish teachers and students

The market for Spanish teaching/learning materials is constantly changing, adapting itself to the growing demand of those who want to learn the language, as well as that of those who want to teach it.

Out of the new materials, EDINUMEN has created two that are particularly interesting.

This publishing house recently launched “Nuevo PRISMA”, which renews, broadens and completes the older edition of this book. This new book takes into account the latest tendencies in teaching methods, as well as the increasing use of interactive tools in education, which have opened a world of possibilities both inside and outside the classroom. The key distinguishing features of this new edition are: its communicative approach, geared towards action; its inclusion of a grammatical guide which is both clear and accessible to the student; its focus on intercultural reflection; its references to digital materials; and its inclusion of an appendix with Instituto Cervantes exam models (new format).

Furthermore, an exercise book has been published for Level C1 in order to consolidate and improve the understanding of the content of this course. The book is divided into twelve units, which contain exercises related to the content of the student book as well as specific preparation for DELE exams, a grammatical appendix and a glossary with definitions and idiomatic expressions, transcriptions and an answer book. It also contains information about the “ELEteca” (the official library of resources for Spanish as a Foreign Language), ideas for extra activities and information about collaborative activites which the student may do online.

We at Instituto Hemingway have been working with the PRISMA books for many years. We find it to be an excellent, comprehensive book whose structure is easily adaptable to all of the courses that we offer. Nevertheless, it is of course important regularly to assess the materials that we use and keep ourselves up to date with the latest publications. We are sure that this new edition will improve our preferred textbook still further, particularly with regards to its inclusion of digital teaching materials, and to its overhaul of the teaching materials for the upper levels.
