The Instituto Hemingway Christmas party
The end of December has come round already, which can only mean one thing – it’s nearly Christmas! All of Bilbao is lit up with Christmas lights, and the traditional Christmas tree has been put up in front of the Arriaga theatre. The shop windows, the trees and of course the Instituto Hemingway are covered with decorations and full of the Christmas spirit.
Christmas is one of Spain’s favourite festivals, and one which they celebrate with a great deal of enthusiasm and excitement: 22nd December marks the traditional Christmas lottery draw, on the 24th (Nochebuena) the Spaniards head home for a family dinner, and the celebrations continue through the 25th (Navidad) to the 31st(Nochevieja) this last complete with champagne and grapes.
All of us at Instituto Hemingway want to wish our students a wonderful Chirstmas and a successful and happy 2012. We’d also like to invite them to our “Christmas party a la española” which will take place this Friday 16th at 3pm, complete with turrón, polvorones (Spanish shortbread) and much more. We’re looking forward to having fun celebrating together, practising Spanish and making our New Year’s resolutions.
We’ll see you there!
